Malacañang on Monday said that it will not force Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chair Zenaida Ducut to resign amid her alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
The National Bureau of Investigation earlier accused Ducut of acting as a broker of several former lawmakers, including resigned Customs Commissioner Rufino Biazon, who transferred their pork barrel funds to dubious non-government organizations allegedly controlled by Janet Lim Napoles.
Ducut used to be the representative of Pampanga’s second district, a post taken over by former President Gloria Arroyo after she appointed the former to the ERC.
Palace spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that they are leaving it to Ducut whether to resign out of delicadeza.
“We leave that to her personal decision whether she should take a leave, resign. That is not within our competence to determine for—to decide for her,” Lacierda added.
