Malaysia’s NBC Food to sell beverage in PH

ONCE the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gives the green light, Malaysian-based NBC Food Industries Sdn. Bhd., will start exporting its beverage products to the Philippines.

After Nestle and Milo, NBC Food is the third largest player in Malaysia’s beverage market with Socolics chocolate malt its number one brand, said Sharmen Cong, NBC Food’s export manager.

“We’re waiting for the FDA approval. It takes 12 months and we hope to get the approval soon so that our agent will start importing and distributing our products nationwide,” she said.

Quezon City-based Gold Munzen Inc. is the exclusive Philippine distributor of NBC Food, and may appoint regional distributors, Cong said.

The NBC Food executive claimed that Filipino consumers will patronize the chocolate-based malted drinks, which contain high nutritional value.

“We want also to ensure that Malaysian food products entering the Philippine market meet the world standard requirement in terms of entrusted quality and reliability,” said Commissioner Nyaee Ayup of the Trade Office at the Embassy of Malaysia in the Philippines.

“Aside from good taste, NBC’s chocolate drinks contain antioxidant and protect our hearts too,” Ayup said.

NBC Food is active in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, and is in the process of entering the Chinese market. The company has also established footprints in the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

Cong sees wide opportunities for growth in a populous country like the Philippines. She said what they offer to the market is quality and competitive pricing to lure consumers.

“We have chocolate malt, malt and milk, hot choco, coffee chocolate. We’re a one-stop solution for beverage products. We can also customize our products for them,” she added.
