Promising Filipina golfer Rianne Malixi finished third in the 9-10 girls’ division of the 2017 IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship on Thursday in San Diego, California.
Malixi moved within a shot to the leader in Wednesday’s second round after a 4-under par output but couldn’t sustain the momentum in the next round. Her two straight birdies in the final round did not do much in her chase for the title.
“A great showing from the gutsy 10-year-old. Very well done and very much deserved, Rianne! Your JGFP family is very proud of you!!” the Junior Golf Circle posted on its Facebook page on Friday.
The campaign of Malixi and fellow Filipino junior golfers Sean Granada (11-12 boys’ class), 16-year-old Filipino-Japanese Yuka Saso (girls’ 15-18 year-old class) and Eagle Ace Superal (girls’ 11-12 class) was supported by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines headed by its president Chona Dela Paz.
Granada finished with 216 to end up 18th out of 134 golfers in his division.
