“The report will be truthful and will be a good reference material in the future.”
A confident police Director Benjamin Magalong made the statement on Thursday as he faced reporters at Camp Crame n Quezon City to announce that the Philippine National Police-Board of Inquiry (PNP-BOI) created to investigate the January 25 Mamasapano clash has come up with a final report and will submit copies to Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd and the acting PNP chief, Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina.
The firefight in Maguindanao province resulted in the death of 44 Special Action Force police commandos and saw the Aquino administration engulfed by a political firestorm.
Magalong, chief of the PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, headed the PNP-BOI that was created a day after the gunbattle between the commandos and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
He said four copies of the report were ready by Thursday afternoon and would be sent to Espina, the Senate and the House of Representatives, which conducted separate inquiries into the incident, and the Commission on Human Rights.
Magalong added that Espina would be the one to submit the report to Roxas, who will then present it to President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
He refused to divulge details of the report, saying it needs clearance from his superiors.
