ZAMBOANGA CITY: A 40-year-old man suspected of beheading his own father and stealing his money amounting to over P300,000 was brought for police custody here. Roderico Bernardo is being probed for the brutal murder of his 74-year old father, whose body was recovered on Thursday outside his thatched hut in the village of Capisan. A blood-stained bolo believed to have been used in the murder of the old man was recovered in Bernardo’s house. Police also noticed blood stains in the house, raising suspicion that the elder Bernardo was killed there, and that his body had been dragged outside. The man’s wife, Felipa, described her husband as frugal, who always carried his money in a bag and trusted not even his own family. She said the money came from farm animals that Bernardo had sold and was planning to buy a mini truck. The money that Bernardo carried with him was missing.
