Man decapitated in Zamboanga del Sur bomb blast

A man was reportedly decapitated Tuesday night in an explosion along the national highway in Zamboanga del Sur, police said on Wednesday.

The blast occurred along the national highway in Barangay Tapodoc, Labangan town.

The reports said bomb experts from the Lanbangan police station recovered another improvised explosive device (IED) 60mm mortar shell with a cellphone as a triggering device near the blast site.

After defusing the device, police discovered a headless body some 15 meters from the site of explosion.

The blast apparently sliced off head.

The Labangan police is trying to determine the identity of the victim.

It was not immediately known whether the man belonged to a rebel or terrorist group. The victims wore a black shirt and black and green tactical shooter pants.

The southern Philippines was hit by a spate of bomb attacks in recent months that killed and wounded dozens of civilians.

Just recently, police killed gunrunning suspect Nadzir Mongkas and captured his companion Rajib Giyaludin in Mindanao. Giyaludin allegedly confessed to buying and selling guns and improvised explosives to various groups and individuals in the southern Philippines.
