MARIVELES, Bataan – Tragedy shrouded a night swimming party at an inland resort here when a man died after saving a drowning girl on Friday.
Celedonio Reyes, a 22-year-old aircon technician, joined 15 of his friends in celebrating the birthday of one of the group at Villa Imperial in Barangay Cabcaben, his mother, Fedeliza said.
The mother said her son’s buddies told her that Celedonio had rescued a girl who was drowning.
After the rescue, Celedonio sat by the pool, but somehow slumped back unnoticed into the water.
Mrs. Reyes said her son had a wound on the forehead.
Luz Rodriguez, the resort owner, said Celedonio’s companions thought he was playing a prank when he disappeared.
Jenyrose Mabansog, 14, said she looked for Reyes when she did not find in the cottage with his other companions.
“I was the first to saw him under water. I began shouting for help,” Mabansog said in Filipino.
Rogel Valerio, 20, said he said he rushed to the pool and helped brought Reyes out of the water.
Mabansog said the resort has been closed for night swimming since May 24. “The group said they would leave by 11 p.m. but they stayed until past 3 a.m,” she said.
Police were investigating the incident.
