SAN MATEO, RIZAL: A former employee of the Armed Force of Philippines (AFP) Mutual Benefit Association was shot to death by police when he went on a rampage at the AFP housing in Barangay Silangan on Friday. San Mateo Police Chief Col. Lucilo Laguna Jr. said Larry Lorena, 49, threatened people with his gun. Residents called the police when Lorena started firing. When police arrived, Lorena ran inside his house. When he was asked to surrender, Lorena stepped out then opened fire at the police, prompting them to fire back. Police said Lorena started to act differently after his wife left him two years ago.
