• Mangudadatu settles bloody family feud

MAGUINDANAO: In pursuit of peace and unity, local leaders ended a bloody family feud or rido in formal rites in Buluan town on Tuesday night.

The feud settlement was mediated by the Maguindanao Task Force on Reconciliation and Unification (MTFRU) led by Gov. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu with the coordination of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) local leaders.

The feud between the two families of Danil Magalang and Tering Macacuna began in 2012 with the murder of one Dioly Magalang who was allegedly part of a love triangle, Mangudadatu said.

The murder was followed by the torching of the feuding families’ houses that prompted the local governments of Rajah Buayan and Sultan-sa-Barongis towns, where the protagonists reside, to intercede for settlement in coordination with the MILF’s 106th Base Command covering both municipalities, MTFRU officials said.

The MTFRU, which was organized for advancing peace and unity in this province, has been settling feuds since its creation in August 2010, marking this achievement as its 21st settled feud.

Rido or family feud is considered one of the major problems in Muslim Mindanao for endangering life and property.

Provincial officials said the MTFRU successes are vying for the Department of Interior and Local Government’s “Gawad Pook” award this year.
