• Mangudadatu supports State of Emergency

BULUAN, Maguindanao: Gov. Esmael ‘Toto’ Mangudadatu recommended stricter imposition of the Comelec gun ban in Maguindanao, as well as the state of emergency (SOE) saying it will do good for the restive province. Maguindanao was placed under SOE by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo following the massacre of 58 people, majority of them journalists, in Ampatuan town on November 23, 2009. Maguindanao covers 36 towns, where people have a strong culture of keeping firearms as well as the provinces of Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Lanao del Sur purposely as status symbol and for protection. The SOE also covers Cotabato City, administratively under the jurisdiction of Region 12, within Maguindanao, a component province of the ARMM.
