ZAMBOANGA CITY: Gunmen in motorcycle killed a staunch supporter of reelectionist Maguindanao Gov. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu in an ambush in North Upi town, police said Wednesday.
Police said Lorenzo Talma was aboard his motorcycle when ambushed late Monday by two gunmen who were tailing him.
Investigators are looking into whether it was connected to a clan war or family feud, or had something to do with politics.
Talma was also a supporter of North Upi Mayor Ramon Piang and reelectionist Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
No individual or group had claimed responsibility for the killing of Talma as of Wednesday.
Clan war is rampant in the province of Maguindanao, where Mangudadatu is being challenged by an influential Muslim leader, Datu Ali Midtimbang, who is running with the powerful Ampatuan clan under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Talma belonged to the Liberal Party (LP) of Mangudadatu, Hataman, and Piang.
