POLICE are now conducting a manhunt operation against a merchant who shot and killed a village official late Tuesday afternoon in a remote village in Pangasinan province, police reports said on Thursday.

Reports at the Philippine National Police National Operations Center in Camp Crame identified the wanted merchant as Ernesto Tapiador, 50, and a resident of Barangay Sawat, Urbiztondo town, Pangasinan province.

Police said that Tapiador is the suspect in the killing of Eduardo Balocation, 39, and a councilor of the same village where Tapiador lives.

Police reports said that Tapiador and an unnamed neighbor were fighting when the village councilor meddled and tried to calm the two. Tapiador didn’t appreciate what Balocating did and instead pulled out his .45 caliber pistol and shot the village official.
