Manhunt out against 4 who bolted Lipa City jail

BATANGAS police have launched a manhunt for four inmates who had escaped from their detention cell early Wednesday morning in Lipa City, police reports said later in the day.

Batangas Provincial Police Director, Senior Supt. Arcadio Ronquillo Jr., identified the escapees as Alvin Masupil Ramos, 27, a construction worker from Sitio Toribio, Brgy. Marawoy; Jonathan Jimenez Villanueva, 23, of Brgy. Balintawak; Marvin Inciong Ruizol, 33, of Brgy. Duhatan; and Rommel Endaya Deche, 27 of Brgy. Kayumangi, all of Lipa City.

The escapees were in jail for charges of robbery, illegal drugs and homicide.

Ronquillo also ordered the relief and investigation of Supt. Barnard Danie Dasugo, chief of police of Lipa City, along with four of his men – Senior Insp. Domingo Balesteros Jr., duty officer during the alleged jail break; Senior Police Officer 2 Cleofe Pera, Police Officer 2 Jayson Luna, desk officers; and Police Officer 1 Daniel Escante, duty jail guard.

The police officers could face administrative charges, aside from criminal charges that could also be filed against Escante, who was jail guard on duty at the time.

The inmates were discovered missing from their detention cell past midnight on Wednesday, when Luna conducted a check after hearing a noise coming from inside a jail cell.

Luna reportedly saw the last of the inmates trying to escape – Tommy Candor – coming out of his cell through the ceiling, but who was immediately arrested.
