THE Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) will propose to the City Council the review of the design of the drainage system of Lagusnilad underpass fronting city hall to solve the perennial flooding in the area.
Johnny Yu, officer-in-charge of the MDRRMC, on Thursday said they will request for the conduct of the retrofitting of Lagusnilad underpass during the city council session next week.
Likewise, Yu said he will propose the holding of a meeting between the Department of Public Works and Highways (MMDA), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the city government to study the drainage system plan of the Lagusnilad underpass.
He added the drainage system of the Lagusnilad underpass is possibly connected to Intramuros, hence, the drainage of Lagusnilad is easily clogged.
Because of this, Yu said, it appears the Lagusnilad underpass also serves as a “catch-basin.”
Yu added he will propose the replacement of the old water pump of Lagusnilad as heavy rains have become frequent resulting to excessive flooding in the area. PNA
