United Football League (UFL) first division club Manila Jeepney FC will not compete in the upcoming 2016 season of the league that will unfold on January, according to a statement released by the team’s management.
The club, representing the City of Manila, entered the tournament in 2013 through the UFL Cup. Manila Jeepney FC was also established during that same year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the management identified financial constraints as the reason for the team’s withdrawal, “Due to financial constraint of running MJFC, we are unable to continue to play in the United Football League. We thank our fans, sponsors, and supporters for all your encouragements, and dedication you have shown us and the trust given. It was a great pleasure being part of this league.”
Manila Jeepney caught the local football fans’ attention after they became runner-up in the second division of the league in 2014.
However, Jeepney had a dismal performance in the UFL this year, ending their campaign at the seventh spot of with just four wins and nine losses.
