Manila Jeepney FC held United Football League defending champs Global FC to a 2-2 draw in their meeting at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday.
The match-up started in favor of Global FC after Hikaru Minegeshi’s squared ball found Izo Elhabib for the opening goal in the fifth minute.
Midway through the first half, Koffi Kouassi outsmarted the defense to put the ball into the back of the net for the equalizing tally.
Global FC was left hanging in the 36th minute following an error from their back-line, giving Eric Giganto a lane to snatch the second goal of his squad and take the lead at halftime.
The defending champs scrambled their offense to overthrow the advantage of the lower-ranked club but was unable to convert in the greater portion of the second half.
With just 10 minutes remaining in regulation, fullback Daisuke Sato sent a lobbing prayer from way beyond the box that consequently went through the hands of the Manila Jeepney goalkeeper.
Both squads locked horns in the dying minutes of the game but both were left empty handed before the 90th minute mark.
Meanwhile, the other match of the game date also ended in a standstill as Green Archers United FC and Stallion FC engaged in a heated battled that ended in 3-3.
