Far Eastern University’s RJ Joyel powered the 2-1 win of underdogs Manila Jeepney FC over newly crowned champions Ceres La Salle in the final game of the 2015 United Football League (UFL) at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Wednesday evening.
“Sumunod lang ako sa mga turo ni Master Kim and sa mga tactics na tinuturo niya [I just followed what Master Kim taught me especially the tactics],” the young goalkeeper said after his impressive performance.
The champions opened the slow game with a goal from Jayson Panhay via a volley off a Cho Kyumson cross in the 25th minute.
To the dismay of Ceres, center-back Kim Sang Min accidentally scored in their own goal after a free kick by Reymart Cubon deep inside their territory canceling their one goal advantage over Manila Jeepney.
The booters from Bacolod worked hard to take back the lead, sending a multitude of shots to their foes side of the pitch, but Joyel parried them all away.
Nicolas Ferrer scored the winning goal in the 55th minute with his ball blasting through the hands of Ceres keeper Michael Casas.
With the win, Jeepney ended their season at the seventh place of the standings with 16 points from four wins, four draws and nine losses.
