• Manila roads closed for Independence Day


    Some roads in the city of Manila will be closed for the commemoration of the 117th Philippine Independence Day on Friday.

    According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the north and southbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard from T.M. Kalaw to Katigbak Drive will be closed from 8 a.m. onwards.

    The north and southbound lanes of Ma. Orosa from P. Burgos to T.M. Kalaw will also be closed, prompting the MMDA and the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) to identify alternate routes.

    Motorists coming from the northern part of Manila who intend to use the southbound lane of Roxas Blvd. shall turn left to P. Burgos, right to Taft Ave., right to T.M. Kalaw, left to M.H. del Pilar or Roxas Blvd. to point of destination.

    All vehicles coming from Southern part of Manila p shall turn right to T.M. Kalaw, left to Taft Ave. to point of destination.

    All vehicles going to and from Manila Ocean Park/H2O Hotel and Manila Hotel shall use Katigbak Drive.

    For those who are planning to participate in the various activities at the Rizal Park, the MMDA is offering free rides to commuters of the Pasig River Ferry.

    Tolentino said the public can avail themselves of the free rides from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

    The ferry service has 11 stations with 10 passenger boats that can accommodate up to 30 passengers each.

    Among these stations are the Pinagbuhatan and San Joaquin in Pasig City, Guadalupe and Valenzuela in Makati City, Hulo in Mandaluyong City, PUP Sta. Mesa, Sta. Ana, Lambingan, Escolta, Lawton, and Plaza Mexico in Manila.
