3rd Business Forum: The Philippine Economic Outlook for 2016
On February 23, 2016, The Manila Times convened the 3rd Business Forum at New World Manila Bay Hotel. More than 200 delegates came to hear the speeches of Central Bank governor AmandoTetangco Jr., International Monetary Fund resident representative to the Philippines Shanaka Jayanath Peiris, World Bank lead economist Van den Brink, and Convergys chairman Marife Zamora.
Six reactors also shared their insights in the forum; PWC chairman and senior partner Atty. Alex Cabrera, Deloitte Philippines/Navarro Amper & Company chief executive officer Greg Navarro, Punongbayan & Araullo chairman Ma. Victoria Espano, Philippine Stock Exchange president and chief executive officer Hans Sicat, The Manila Times business columnist Ben Kritz, and BDO Capital and Investment Corporation president Eduardo Francisco.
Women’s Circle Breaking Down Barriers: Empowering Filipino Women Leaders
“When women work, economies grow,” said the president of NEC Philippines, Agnes Gervacio, at the first installment of The Manila Times Women’s Circle on June 10, 2016 at Marco Polo Ortigas.
Guest speaker Gervacio emphasized the emerging role of women worldwide with hard data from the United Nations.
“We have been consistently among the top 10 globally as regards to women empowerment and the number one in the Asia-Pacific region,” she said, noting that there are more women in the Philippines now who are legislators, senior officials, professionals and even in ministerial positions.
When asked about competition among empowered women, Gervacio dismissed it as a no-brainer. Instead, she said, “I don’t see my fellow women as a competition but as someone I can hold hands with.”
Women’s Circle is a bi-annual gathering of Filipino women executives. The second symposium will be on October 28, 2016 at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria.
4th Business Forum Philippine Banks: Does Size Matter?
The Philippine banking industry took the spotlight at The Manila Times 4th Business Forum on June 22, 2016 at Marriott Hotel Manila.
The forum was well-represented by speakers and reactors from various industries to discuss and address certain cyber issues, money laundering, the impact of integration on Philippine banks, opportunities and challenges in the Philippine banking system, technology and fraud in the banking system and better performance and profits from better security.
Almost 200 delegates attended the forum to hear the speeches of IBM Philippines president Luisito Pineda, Omnipay chief compliance officer Stephen Cutler, NBI head agent Palmer Mallari, Asian Development Bank principal economist Thiam Hee Ng, World Bank senior financial sector specialist Nataliya Mylenko, and Citibank Philippines chief executive and Citi country officer Aftab Ahmed.
Seven reactors also shared their insights; FINEX president George Chua, First Metro Investment Corp. (FMIC) independent director Abelardo Cortez, Punongbayan & Araullo chief information officer Emiliano Librea III, United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) vice president and head Joey Regala, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company senior vice president Angelica S. Reyes, PNB chairman Flor Tarriela, and PWC consulting director Jonathan Uy.
The 5th Business Forum will be on February 10, 2017 at Marco Polo Davao.
1st President’s Cup
More than 100 executives from different industries participated in The Manila Times 1st President’s Cup golf tournament at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club Aoki course on July 22, 2016.
“The purpose of this event really is to say thank you to all our friends and supporters, and to promote developments. One of the developments is The Manila Times’ opinion section is now number one and we take pride in that. Hopefully, we would go on as the number one newspaper in the country one day. Besides, this event is also one of the highlights of our 118th anniversary,” The Manila Times president and chief executive officer Dante “Klink” Ang 2nd said.
The 2nd President’s Cup golf tournament will be on December 2, 2016 at South Forbes Golf Club.
