Vendors and stall owners in several public markets in Manila will not sell their wares on September 14 to protest the privatization of the city’s public markets.
Vendors in public markets in Sampaloc, Trabajo, Quinta, Pritil, Dagonoy, San Andres, and Sta. Ana will join the activity. They will close their stalls or stop selling 6 a.m. to 12 midnight on Monday.
The undertaking will be initiated by the Save Manila Public Market Alliance (SAMPAL).
The group said they are against Manila City Ordinance No. 8346, also known as the Manila Joint Venture Ordinance, that seeks to privatize 17 public markets in Manila.
