Another village chief was gunned down in Manila on Monday afternoon.
Chairman Dante Gomzalo, 61, of Barangay 670 Zone 72, District 4, was attacked by men on a motorcycle at about 4:30 p.m. in front of his bar near the corner of Mabini and Flores streets in Ermita.
He sustained two gunshot wounds in the head and body. He was rushed to the Manila Doctor’s Hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Witnesses told police investigators that they heard three gunshots and saw the victim fall.
The Manila Police District’s Homicide Division led by Senior Police Officer 1 Joel Kabigtin has yet to determine the motive for the killing.
Initial investigation showed that two unidentified men on a motorcycle wearing bull caps, jackets, and face masks approached the victim and fired. The suspects also pointed their guns at a relative of the victim.
On June 22, Kristo Hispano, chairman of barangay 649, zone 88 of Baseco compound was ambushed along Roxas Boulevard but he survived.
On June 20, a retired Philippine Marine, Jugie Lim Umandac, 59, was killed after being ambushed by motorcycle-riding men along Bonifacio Avenue in Intramuros, Manila. Umandac is a neighbor of Hispano.
