Tonight marks the premiere of the much-awaited local production of hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila (RWM).
Certainly the hot ticket for the weekend, retro hits such as Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”; the Village People’s “Go West”; Alicia Bridges’s “I Love The Nightlife”; Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”; Dionne Warwick’s “I Say A Little Prayer”; The Weather Girls “It’s Raining Men”; and Peaches and Herb’s “Shake Your Groove Thing”, and are just some of the fabulously fun music that make up the outrageous yet heart-tugging show.
“The younger generation will eat this show up,” predicts veteran thespian Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, who is part of the cast. “They took an interesting story and filled it with disco music, so we will surely have audiences dancing in their seats.”
With numerous adaptations worldwide since the film version in 1994, Pricilla’s story is about three friends who traverse the Australian outback aboard their trusty pink bus named “Priscilla.” They end up showcasing their eccentric and flamboyant cabaret-style talents to a number of oddball characters along the way.
As the road trip progresses and into its climax, the trio ultimately find love, the value of friendship and family, as well as who they truly are in an adventure of self-discovery
Priscilla Queen of the Desert stars Leo Tavarro Valdez, Jon Santos, and Red Concepcion.
