Manobo tribesman hacked to death in Surigao del Sur



A young tribesman was hacked to death and then robbed of cash and a gun late Thursday night in a hinterland village in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, belated police reports said Saturday.

The reports identified the victim as Sonny Boy Bucales, 20, a member of Manobo tribe and resident of Purok-13, Barangay Bolhoon, San Miguel.

The suspect, Robert Martine, 23 and resident of Purok-9, Malindog of the same village, escaped after the incident.

Bucales was sacking his stock of unprocessed gold in his home when Martine appeared and hacked him in the neck, the reports said.

The suspect took some P7,000 in cash and .45 caliber pistol from Bucales’ belt-bag before fleeing.

The two were reportedly seen having a heated argument over their wage before the incident.
