THE Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals have forfeited their game against the Letran Knights today in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament elimination round at The Arena in San Juan City.
NCAA Management Committee member Melchor Divina of Mapua said that the suspension of nine Mapua players had left them with only four players available for the game. He said that only Jessie Saitanan, Joseph Eriobu, Jeson Cantos and CJ Isit are available to play for the Cardinals.
Among the Mapua players suspended for their involvement in the bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) were Leo Gabo (four games), Jomari Tubiano (three games), Justin Serrano (two games), James Galoso (two games), Exeqiel Biteng (two games), Andrew Estrella (two games), Jerome Canaynay (one game), Ronnel Villasenor (one game) and Darrel Magsigay (one game).
Because of the forfeiture, last year’s runner-up Letran gained its seventh win against nine losses but it’s still not enough to book a seat to the Final Four. Mapua’s win-loss record on the other hand will drop to 4-12.
In the other game, the EAC Generals will play against the San Sebastian College Stags at 5 p.m. The EAC Generals have also forfeited their game against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas on Friday following the suspension of its eight players.
