COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao: A school superintendent in Marawin City who reached the mandatory retirement of age 65 was ordered to discontinue rendering service after the Court of Appeals (CA) overturned the lower court ruling allowing her to adjust her date of birth. Mona Macatanong “is deemed to have already reached the compulsory retirement age of sixty five (65) by October 18, 2013 and has no right to continue or prolong the tenure with DepEd-ARMM,” the appeallate court decision dated December 4 said. In 2011, a local court in Marawi City affirmed Macatanong’s claim that her retirement should take effect October 2016. However, the CA ruled otherwise and overturned the lower court’s decision. Amir Mawallil, spokesperson of the ARMM, said the CA ruling also exposed illegal practices in past administrations tampering with the process of promotion.
