Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Eumir Felix Marcial stopped Egyptian Said Mohamed Walid via first round technical knockout on Wednesday night in the 2015 World Boxing Championship at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha, Qatar.
Marcial, 19, a welterweight boxer from Zamboanga City, unleashed a solid straight right to finish the fight. Said failed to stand up within the standing eight-count of the referee.
“He actually hit me a couple of times in the early going so I said to myself I have to get back at him. Good thing my punches found their mark,” the former world junior and Asian youth champion said in an email interview.
Marcial will fight next Youba Sissokho of Spain who defeated Thailand’s Ardee Sailom.
It was the Philippine’s second win in the meet after light flyweight Rogen Ladon of Bago City beat Argentina’s Leandro Blanc via unanimous decision on Tuesday.
