TACLOBAN CITY: With barely two weeks left before the May 9 polls, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has finally brought his Unity caravan in Eastern Visayas, which has more than 2.6 million voters.
Marcos was joined by his mother, a native of this city and now Representative of Ilocos Norte.
Fresh from a four-day sortie in northern Mindanao, Marcos yesterday attended a meet and greet at Remedios T. Romualdez Gym here attended by his mother and immediate family members.
Today, the Unity caravan will go to Maasin, Southern Leyte then to Ormoc City. On Monday, Marcos’ motorcade will pass the busy streets of Borongan in Eastern Samar and then on to Catarman City in Northern Samar and Catbalogan City in Western Samar.
The Samar-Leyte sortie will end with a grand rally in this city on Monday evening.
Last week, Marcos was in Mindanao where he got the endorsement of Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vicente “Bambi” Emano.
Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Rolando “Klarex” Uy also endorsed Marcos despite being an active member of the administration party.
Marcos also won the support of the Dimaporos of Lanao del Norte.
At least three members of the family are vying for crucial posts in the province —
Imelda “Angging” Quibranza Dimaporo is attempting to return as governor, son Gov. Khalid is running for representative of the first district, and her husband
Abdullah is seeking the congressional seat of the second district.
On Friday, Marcos visited the province and campaigned in the provincial capital Tubod and adjoining towns.
The Dimaporos are all running under Liberal Party but they said they could not abandon Marcos.
“Our friendship was beyond politics. Khalid is my godbrother. Abdullah was one of the first two persons who visited my father during our exile in Hawaii,” the senator said.
Abdullah introduced Marcos to the mayors he gathered at Mindanao Capitol Center Hotel in Tubod. Of the 22 mayors, 18 were present and they all agreed to support Marcos in the May 9 polls.
