Marcos declares VP bid

Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday declared his intention to run for vice president in next year’s elections.

He however, dismissed earlier reports of him running in tandem with either Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as “mere speculations”.

“I have decided to run for Vice President in the May 2016 elections.

“All this talk of teaming up with certain leading presidential candidates has been mere speculation,” he said.

He said he flew to Davao City on Wednesday and consulted with Duterte as he confirmed that Binay had invited him to become his running mate.

“(Duterte) was gracious enough to promise me his support should I decide to run for Vice President. I too will support Mayor Duterte if and when he runs for President.

“Regarding Vice President Jejomar Binay, I was invited to be his Vice-Presidential candidate. There were initial talks between our supporters. But any team up with the Vice President must be rooted on a shared vision for our country, a common platform of government as well as political perspectives.

Unfortunately it would be difficult for me to tame our political differences,” he said.

FULL STATEMENT OF SEN. FERDINAND “BONGBONG” MARCOS JR.

I have decided to run for Vice President in the May 2016 elections.

All these talks of teaming up with certain leading presidential candidates have been mere speculations.

I flew to Davao City on Wednesday and consulted with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.  He was gracious enough to promise me his support should I decide to run for Vice President. I too will support Mayor Duterte if and when he runs for President.

Regarding Vice President Jejomar Binay, I was invited to be his Vice-Presidential candidate. There were initial talks between our supporters. But any team up with the Vice President must be rooted on a shared vision for our country, a common platform of government as well as political perspectives.

Unfortunately it would be difficult for me to tame our political differences.

For one thing, I believe that elected officials have an obligation to our people to help change the course of our nation’s history by banishing              the politics of personality which to me is one of the primary causes why our country today has become a soft state where the rich become richer,          the poor become poorer, graft and corruption is endemic, the drug menace pervades, injustice is the norm and government incompetence is accepted is the new normal.

Consequently, I have decided to put my political fortune in the hands of the Filipino people. I humbly ask them to judge whether or not I am worthy of their trust to be Vice President on the strength of my performance as a public servant in the last 26 years : first as former Vice Governor and Governor of Ilocos Norte, then as Representative of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte and, finally, as Senator of the country.

Thank you and may God bless us all.

I am disappointed that he choose the VP Position. We need him to be the president.

I believe Sen. Bongbong Marcos would be a better VP. His credentials & public service
performance has proven his excellent preparation for this higher position !

  3. Forget the the past Senator make amends with Binay. Unity is the name of the game for the our countrys future. Change the yellow color into unity color. Whatever color you decide between and VP Binay we will call it UNITY color that will unite the political differences and will serve the people especially the poorest of the poor. GO BINAY MARCOS tandem GO>>>>2016>>>>

  4. It’s quite disappointing for many that BBM is not running for president, but it’s a good step for his political ambitions and this, maybe, is a blessing..

His candidacy for VEEP gives ‘Escoederoe’ and ‘Roebredoe’, a “run for their money”. Marcos can easily ‘carry’ his own weight without any presidential candidate who might even prove to be a ‘heavy luggage’ for him to carry. For the skeptics, there is still such thing as ‘solid north’; he has strong family and political ties in the Visayas; and, the support of Duterte in Mindanao. Perhaps, Mrs. ‘Roebredoe’ and ‘Escoederoe’ are thinking twice now.

    BBM Veep 2016!

I am satisfied of BBM`s decission not to run in tandem with Binay for many reasons almost all Filipinos know. However, BBM should run for president instead so that he can implement his plans for our country. Being VP is just like a spare tire and in the Phils. VP is not a productive position it is just a jumping board for the presidency. Wiith the experience of BBM and competence he has shown in discharging his functions in every post he got elected, he is well ripe for the presidency and can perform better compared to the other presidentiables. BBM for President!!!!!

Marcos should run with Duterte. Not Binay. Remember the allegations of
corruption againts Binay that up to this date he refuses to answer? In this
country, there are millons of filipinos who hardly can make both ends meet.

  7. Sayang, may laban si BBM sa pagkandidato sa President. Sa palagay ko, tatakbo si Duterte kaya VP lng ang desisyon nya. Anyway, i hope he will win then 2022 for President, tama lng sa edad nya. I still vote for BBM for Pres or VP.

Good decision Marcos not to run with Binay. You should not forget what this corrupt Binay did to your father during the 70s (shouting insulting words to your late father). He just want you to run as his VP candidate to get the Solid North votes. Sigurista yan si Binay. Don’t ever trust him. The solid north will never go for Binay because he never did anything during his VP term to the people of the North. Binay is a fake Ilokano. Calling all Ilokanos, please DO NOT vote for Binay.
