FORMER senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday hailed President Rodrigo Duterte for showing leadership in his first year in office.
“President Rodrigo Duterte has shown one singular quality that is very clear and the reason why he is very popular – the quality of leadership,” Marcos said in a statement.
“He has shown that leadership both in our local and foreign policies. For example, he has redirected our foreign policy and that is the reason why we have regained once again a crucial and important position in the international community to the benefit of the Philippines,” he added.
“It is the same with various domestic policies. I think the Filipino people recognize that. Only a good leader can do that and he managed to do just that.”
Former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo also praised Duterte for boosting soldiers’ morale amid the fighting in Marawi City.
Arroyo issued the statement a day after the President took 15 soldiers and policemen wounded in the Marawi clash to a presidential plane ride and gave them with personnel medals.
Arroyo also cited President Duterte’s visits to military camps to see soldiers, as well as the issuance of Executive Order 3 that raised the soldiers’ monthly combat pay to P3,000 from P1,500.
“The least a leader can do to increase the morale of the defenders of our democracy and peace is to make sure that their families do not go hungry,” Arroyo said in a statement.
