Marcos pushes free college education

IF Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. had his way, all students enrolled in state colleges and universities will be fully subsidized by the government.

Marcos said in a press briefing in Boracay, Aklan that based on his study, the government has the means to shoulder the tuition of all students enrolled in SUCs.

My proposal that the education of all students enrolled in state colleges should be for free should be studied thoroughly because based on our calculation, the budget needed for this is not that gargantuan),” Marcos said.

The senator stressed that education is one of the most important services that the government can provide to the people.

Based on data from the Commission on Higher Education, there are 547 SUCs whose operations are subsidized by the government. However, students in state colleges and universities still have to pay tuition.

Based on data from the Commission on Higher Education, there were 1.4 million students enrolled in SUCs for the school year 2013-2014.

Marcos also called for bigger support for public school teachers, saying it is a crucial factor in efforts to improve the educational system.

The senator vowed to work for the enactment of measures for this purpose in the remaining session days of the Senate.

If these measures will not be accommodated during the current legislative agenda, Marcos said he will continue to push for these bills if he is elected vice president next year.

  2. the problem with SCU palakasan din ang pagpasok, if this is a proposal not only in scu but to all who wants to earn degree. just use the basis is the income tax there you may check if the parents can afford to provide the children of their schooling.sa laki ng pork barrel over over yan para makapagaral ang bawat Pilipino na makapagtapos.

  3. Hah?

During marcos time a lot of intellectual students from public school originated. Now even at the high school graduated from Private schools dont know nothing about math and history…Really sad to say, dumami ang bobo kaysa nuong panahon ni Marcos. that time i was in elementary public school but our timing is whole day… kaya marami kang matutunan aside from good academic subjcts..Ngayon ano mayroon tayong subject ng kabobohan .. Poor education system,
pathetic..Pati TESDA may tuition fee, ano ito. Ito ang ipinalit sa Manpower Youth na programa ni Marcos, na libre at walang tuition fee nuong araw.. this is vocational course for highly skilled workers which is in demand for abroad, like welders, electrician, mechnic, etc..Students with highly skilled but cannot afford to get in college because he cannot pass the entrance exam for college. Feed your mind people with substance and not lies by the yellow regime…

  5. Dati naman libre, during 50’s and 60’s in all SUCs, I am a product of MSCAT, Mindoro, 1967. If Marcos will push it must be for real, and not for mere election purpose. There ought to be a demand to budget 5 times more for Education, para naman hindi lokohan lang ang ganitong proposal. Sa k-12 program malaki ang kailangan budget to implement, ngunit anu ang nangyayari, puro lang papogi ang mga opisyal, wala naman budget at ginagamit ng Pangulo almost half of the National Budget for political patronage and extravagant expenses in the sound of Billions at the expense of real needs for poverty alleviation.
