While it is difficult for Filipinos today to go on as usual what with the catastrophic effects of Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas, life still has to go on. Responsibilities and commitments are ever present, even for the country’s biggest stars.
On Wednesday, despite the worsening news from the devastated areas, Marian Rivera was launched as scheduled as Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar girl for 2014. Though supposedly a very apt ending to the year she was voted FHM Sexiest anew, the very curvaceous TV and movie star could not help but divert her attention on ways she can help the victims of the super typhoon.
Her first reaction, like many Filipinos whether here or around the world, was to do whatever she can to help relief efforts. As a celebrity, she is, however, torn on whether she should talk about the donations she has made and what she plans to do in the coming days.
Marian, who refused to comment on whether there is any truth to talks that she is the country’s highest paid calendar girl to date, briefly mentioned working with the GMA Kapuso Foundation, as well as her boyfriend Dingdong Dantes’ Yes Foundation, for donations to the ongoing relief efforts. While she chose not to disclose details on these, she did take the opportunity to announce that she is auctioning off her favorite dresses and gowns to raise more funds.
Asked whether these are pieces that are hard to part with, she took a deep breath and flashed her famous smile.
Getting back to work—that which allows her to help out in a bigger capacity than everyday folks—Marian thanked Ginebra San Miguel for her second opportunity to be the brand’s calendar girl, having appeared on what is practically considered a collector’s item, especially for men, in 2009.
“I feel so honored and blessed to pose for Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar for the second time,” declared Marian. “This time, I am more confident in posing for the brand. I am also very proud because all of the layouts were tastefully done.”
The sizzling layouts were shot on location in Batangas, Boracay and Palawan by photographer Marc Nicdao with Liz Uy as Marian’s stylist.
According to GSMI Vice President and Marketing Manager Nelson Elises, they had no other celebrity in mind for the calendar but Marian, especially since 2014 is a big year for the company.
“Marian is a big star and we want to celebrate our 180th anniversary in a big way and with a bang. She exudes the sensuality and confidence of the ideal Ginebra calendar girl and we are so happy to have her onboard as our calendar girl for the second time.”
