COMBINED elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police destroyed P14.7 million worth of marijuana during the three-day operation dubbed as “Golden Green Bush” in Benguet last week.
Authorities destroyed 69,250 marijuana plants, 2,000 seedlings, 3,000 grams of seeds and 9,000 grams of dried leaves in a raid conducted on the 8,600-square meter plantation covering Sitios Leyeng, Bagiw, Gingaw, Bitu and Lingey in Barangay Tacadang, and Sitios Balbalnag, Teb-teb, Batuan, Tataan and Lucoc in Barangay Badeo, all in Kibungan town.
In Cebu, PDEA Regional Office 7 operatives in collaboration with the Philippine Air Force 303rd Air Intelligence and Security Group uprooted 18,000 full-grown marijuana plants and cleared 30 illegal hemp cultivation sites in Barangay Bayong in Balamban town on April 11.
The estimated total land area of the marijuana plantation sites destroyed is more or less three hectares, with each location having an area between 300 square meters to a hectare.
“Although no cultivators were arrested during these marijuana eradication operations, PDEA and other law enforcement agencies will aggressively implement the law to suppress the cultivation of marijuana, the country’s second illegal drug of choice,” said PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr., adding the cooperation and collaboration among PDEA, PNP, and the PAF led to the successful anti-drug operations.
