ALILEM, Ilocos Sur: Police in this town confiscated more than 400 kilos of dried marijuana with an estimated market value of more than P2 million from a drug pusher along the national highway on Brown Street in Barangay Alilem Daya on Saturday night.
Senior Inspector Jade Macaraeg, chief of police, identified the suspect as Marton Comot, 35, and a resident of Marcos Highway in Baguio City.
Macaraeg told The Manila Times that Comot was spotted by a concerned citizen in Bakun, Benguet, driving a Tamaraw FX loaded with sacks containing marijuana leaves and vegetables.
Macaraeg immediately put up a checkpoint along the highway in Alilem Daya where his group waited until 11 p.m. on December 24.
A few minutes, policemen spotted a vehicle with a single light.
They flagged it down and asked for the driver’s license.
The policemen inspected the vehicle and found sacks of dried marijuana leaves.
It was learned that the dried marijauna leaves will be delivered by the suspect to Metro Manila where he will sell it for P5,000 per kilo.
Comot was a drug surrenderer, according to the Alilem police.
