MARINA intensifies safety campaign


As storms had started to hit the Philippines, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)has intensified its safe sea voyage program to ensure the safety of passengers during the rainy season.

MARINA Administrator Maximo Mejia Jr. ordered the strict enforcement of the program to ensure safe, secure, fast and reliable water transport system.

The agency’s Enforcement Service (ES), to carry out the order, held safety awareness campaign through consultative dialogues on safety and passenger awareness with the maritime stakeholders nationwide.

The ES recently held separate dialogues in San Antonio, Zambales and Daanbantayan, Cebu to orient the stakeholders and boat captains on the importance of their compliance to Marina policies and the observance of safety culture in order to prevent maritime accidents.

Herschel Magracia, ES director, headed the dialogue in coordination with the regional offices concerned and local government units.

A similar safety awareness campaign was conducted in the past months in Guian, Eastern Samar, Bohol, Basco, Zamboanga and Manila.
