PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd has approved the appointment of Maj. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo as the new vice chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Tanalgo formally assumed the post Friday during a simple change of office and retirement ceremonies for outgoing AFP vice chief of staff Lt. Gen. John Bonafos.
Col. Restituto Padilla, AFP spokesman, said Tanalgo will remain as the incumbent Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps until such time that his replacement is named.
According to Padilla, the incoming AFP vice chief is a dedicated and seasoned officer who has served with distinction in all his previous assignments.
“He will definitely bring a lot to the General Headquarters owing to his varied experiences as a decorated commander and respected staff officer. His assumption as the new VCSAFP will complete a truly joint posting of all the major services at the top three posts of the AFP with the AFP’s top honcho from the Philippine Army and the TDCS (Deputy Chief of Staff ) from the Philippine Air Force,” Padilla noted.
Besides Bonafos, also retiring this year are Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad on November 22 and Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero on November 24.
