Mariveles switches on Christmas lights

MARIVELES: It was a Friday before dusk to remember in Mariveles, Bataan as the Christmas lights were switched on at the municipal hall and its surrounding areas, and as far away as the town’s boulevard by the sea.

Mariveles has the distinction of always the first municipality in the province to switch on its Christmas lights. This year, it did almost a month before Christmas.

To spice up the occasion, Mariveles Tourism Council Chair Cleotilde Concepcion, wife of Mayor Jesse Concepcion, led municipal workers do the Zumba. A mini-brass band composed of municipal employees provided romantic musical numbers before the countdown.

As night fell, the mayor led the countdown. Then colorful lights of Christmas burst all around, to the delight of the crowd. Simultaneously lighted were a 20-foot Christmas tree, and plants and trees near the municipal hall.

Promenaders at the boulevard facing the sea, where Manila Bay and West Philippines Sea meet, were likewise excited to see bright Christmas “stars” suddenly coming to life, adorning street posts with attractive lights.
