Mark Gil succumbs to Cirrhosis

VETERAN actor Mark Gil passed away today at 8 a.m. due to the liver disease cirrhosis. He was 52.

The actor was last seen on television in the ABS-CBN drama series The Legal Wife, and has appeared in 34 TV shows and over a hundred movies since his first film, Underage in 1980.

Gil is regarded as one of the most talented personalities in the industry, belonging to a family of renowned actors in Philippine cinema. His parents are Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, while his siblings are Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil.

Today, a third generation of actors from the Gil-Mesa clan is active in show business, among them Gil’s sons Gabby Eigenmann (with former model Irene Celebre) and Timmy Eigenmann (with current partner and former actress Bing Pimentel), and daughter Andi Eigenmann (with ex-wife and actress Jacklyn Jose).

Gil’s talent manager June Rufino issued the following statement just a few hours following the actor’s passing: “Yes, we would like to confirm the death of one of our beloved, Mark Gil, who just joined our Creator this morning at 8. As of now the family is in deep grieving and they want private time with him. They will issue an official statement within the day. Thank you. We need all your prayers for the repose of the soul of Mark and the strength for his beloved family.”
