LUCENA CITY: The city government on Wednesday released the first batch of financial assistance to stall owners and vendors of the public market gutted by fire on May 28. Mayor Roderick “Dondon” Alcala led the distribution of P2 million to 246 stall owners and vendors. “Maliit na ayuda lang po ito pero sana makatulong sa mabilis ninyong recovery mula sa naganap na sunog [It’s just a small amount but, hopefully, it will help you recover from the fire],” Alcala told the beneficiaries. He said the remaining 200 stall owners will get their cash assistance in the following days. Alcala also instructed City Engr. Rodencio Tolentino to fast-track the construction of a temporary market at C.M. Recto Street (former DLTB terminal) for the affected stall owners while the fire-razed public market is being built.
