Maroons blank Warriors for first win in UAAP

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) downed University of the East, 2-0, to claim its first win in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s football tournament at the McKinley Hill Stadium.

Raphael Resuma 18th minute strike from an assist by Roland Saavedra opened the scoring for the Fighting Maroons. 1-0 Vincent Aguilar then blasted a late goal, scoring it straight to the bottom right corner in the 89th minute to clinch it for UP.

The Maroons, who missed rookie JB Borlongan and Christian Lapas due to national Under-19 duties in China, now has four points in fifth place.

The Red Warriors, who have yet to score a goal this season, remained at one point.

In a late match, Ateneo claimed its first three points of the season with a 4-0 drubbing of Adamson.

Mikko Mabanag (48th), Jeremiah Rocha (55th), Jarvey Gayoso (85th) and Mashu Yoshioka (90th+2) found the back of the net as the Blue Eagles ended a two-match losing streak.

Still without a point to show, the Falcons are now at the bottom of the table.
