C.B. Richard Ellis Philippines (CBRE) Mavericks played an exciting brand of rugby 7s at round 2 of the JML 7s League on the weekend, the Mavericks now sit on the top of both the Plate (2nd) and Bowl (3rd) divisions after winning three out of their four games. This weekend the Mavericks are looking to keep their winning formula alive.
In the Plate division, CBRE Mavericks are on the rise. The Mavericks comfortably beat the Manila Hapons 31-0 and followed with another win overcoming the Alabang Ibons in a close and exciting match up. Philippine Volcano Alexander Aronson, along with Philippine Residents XV representative Damien Fouracres, both had strong performances paving the way for the Mavericks. Three teams currently have 9 points in the Plate but it’s the CBRE Mavericks who lead with a better point’s difference over Alabang Ibons and Makati Chiefs.
The Alabang Eagles Men’s and Women’s first division teams continue to dominate the top divisions having won all their games so far in the JML 7s League. The Lady Eagles took the field first winning both games against Miriam College. In the Men’s division Federico Krause set up a shock first try for the Manila Nomads straight from the kick off, Krause was back to his best. However it didn’t take long for Tim Bweheni and the rest of the Alabang Eagles to show their dominance in the Cup division running away eventual winners in both games. 19 to 5 in the first, and 25 point to nil in the second. The Clark Jets return for week 3 after a scheduled bye, they will however be without their Captain and Philippine Volcano Jovan Reyes Masalunga who suffered a season ending injury in the Philippine Residents XV game last week. A huge task ahead for the young Jets missing their leader for the rest of the league.
Round 3 of the JML 7s League is this Saturday 1st October at 12.00pm at Southern Plains, Canlubang. The JML 7s League consists of 6 weeks of competition, followed by a finals week to determine the champion teams for all four divisions.
