bbpilipinas20160419Newly crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maxine Medina hopes to give her nation and fellowmen a back-to-back win at the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world following 2015 Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach’s reign.

This she expressed in a thank you post on her Instagram account after winning the coveted title Sunday evening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

“Rest assured that I will do my best to improve more and to be the pride of my country. Hopefully a back-to-back win with the reigning Miss Universe @piawurtzbach with the help of the Lord,” she captioned her photo together with Wurtzbach.

With the country sure to keep an eye on Medina in the coming days, let’s find out more about the 25-year-old beauty queen from Quezon City.

Technically, this year’s pageant was Medina’s first full shot at the Bb. Pilipinas crown even if she was chosen as one of the official candidates of the contest’s outing in 2012. At that time, she had an endorsement contract with a brand, which turned out to be in direct competition with one of Bb. Pilipinas’ major sponsors. Effectively, her name was withdrawn from the official list of candidates even before she could participate in any pre-pageant activities.

Not one to give up her dreams to be a beauty queen, she trained under Aces and Queens Management—the company of beauty queen/talent scout Jonas Gafud, who also took the likes of Wurtzbach, Venus Raj and Shamcey Supsup under his wing—and was chosen as Candidate No. 29 among this year’s 40 contenders.

Blessed with beauty, brains and a commitment to hard work, she bested the other finalists and took home the coveted Miss Universe Philippines title.

Before her triumph, Medina has been a staple on fashion runways and print advertisements. She is an official member of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines.

She is also a professional interior designer, with a diploma from the Philippine School of Interior Design. She attended the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.

Medina pursued her studies while working as a full time model. The 5”7.5’ stunner comes from a family of fashion and commercial models, namely Maximo and Maria Fe Medina.
