May Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno save our Republic

TODAY’s celebration of Quiapo church’s (and district’s) Feast of the Black Nazarene (Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno) is doubly significant to devotees.

For January 9, 2015 falls on a Friday. Friday is the regular day of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. To many of those who do mental prayer every day, Friday is devoted to meditating on and praying intensely to the Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity in His many manifestations, including that as the Black Nazarene.

The traditional hymn the Quiapo church encourages devotees to sing in prayer to the Black Nazarene is worth meditating on today.  It is a hymn composed by the late Lucio San Pedro, whom the late President Cory Aquino proclaimed as National Artist for Music in 1991. He was a devotee of the Black Nazarene and he composed religious songs, hymns and two Masses.

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno,
(Our Father Jesus the Nazarene)

Sinasamba ka namin
(We worship you)

Pinipintuho ka namin
(We admire you)

Aral mo ang aming buhay
At Kaligtasan
(Your teachings are our life
and our salvation)

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
(Our Father Jesus Nazarene)
Iligtas mo kami sa Kasalanan
(Please save us from our sins)

Ang Krus mong Kinamatayan ay
Sagisag ng aming Kaligtasan
(The cross on which you died
is the sign of our Salvation)

Chorus:

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
(Our Father Jesus Nazarene)

Dinarangal ka namin
(We honor you)

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
(Our Father Jesus Nazarene)

Nilul’walhati ka namin
(We glorify you)

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
(Our Father Jesus Nazarene)

Dinarangal ka namin
(We honor you)

Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno
(Our Father Jesus Nazarene)

Nilul’walhati ka namin
(We glorify you)

The Black Nazarene image came to the Philippines from Mexico during the Galleon Trade.  It is said that it was sculpted by an Aztec woodworker.

Devotees swear to Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno’s miraculous powers.  Orthodox Catholic doctrine of course agrees that the mere commitment of a person who had previously been turned away from the one True God (in the Trinity of the Father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit) is a miracle in itself.  But many temporal petitions made by devotees to Nuestro Padre Nazareno have indeed been granted.  Some of these have been impossible cures from horrible illnesses or the relatively “easy” one of finding a job. But the greatest miracle of all, which even believers take for granted, is the change in the attitude to God and religion, and the conversion from a life of vice to a life of virtue and tenderness that happens to husbands, sons and daughters—or even mothers-in-law—of Catholics who have become close to Jesus the Nazarene.

We here at The Times are praying today for the good of all our readers.

We are also asking Nuestro Padre Nazareno to have mercy on us, the Filipino Nation.

Please save us from the evil intentions of those who are in power, from their greed, corruption and hypocrisy, and from their persistent efforts to perpetuate injustice, to trash the rule of law, the Philippine Constitution and the teachings of the Church.

Those who have not witnessed miracles will always doubt. Only faith is asked of us.

  2. Mr. Editor, It’s true God wants us to pray. But He wants us to pray according to His way and not according to the teachings of men. In Matthew 6:7-8 Jesus says to his disciples, “When you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose they will be heard on their many words. So do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him”.

On worshiping graven images, the Bible says “Do not make for yourselves graven images in the likeness of those in heaven, nor worship them or serve them… for I am a jealous God…”. There is no need for pictures and images to remind us of the greatness of God. The Bible says God is spirit, therefore, we must worship Him in spirit and truth, and not through sight.

    • i agree with you. you are a true believer. God the Father, God the Son and God the holy Spirit. NO GRAVEN IMAGES. this is paganism.
