A TOWN mayor in Surigao del Sur and his private secretary were arrested at their office in Lingig Municipal hall on Tuesday afternoon for estafa charges, a senior police official said on Thursday.
PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Chief Supt. Victor Deona, identified the arrested local official as Robero Luna Jr., incumbent mayor of Lingig town.
Arrested along with Luna was his private secretary Albert Tranquilan.
Deona said joint police operatives from CIDG unit in Surigao del Sur and Caraga Regional Police Office arrested the two at around 1p.m. Tuesday at the Lingig Municipal Hall.
CIDG Caraga regional chief Supt. Randy Glenn Silvio said Luna and Tranquilan were arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest for estafa case issued by Judge Rufo Naragas, of Bislig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 29 in Surigao del Sur.
Police did not give further details on the case against the mayor and his secretary.
