• Mayoralty bet survives ambush

A provincial Board member and mayoralty candidate in a Palawan town escaped unharmed while his two police escorts and a driver were wounded in an ambush that occurred in a remote village of the province late Wednesday afternoon.

A report reaching Camp Crame said Abraham Ibba, ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan, and his group were waylaid by armed men along the National Highway in Brgy. Tarusan, while traveling back to Bataraza town from another town in Southern Palawan.

The same report identified the police escorts as Senior Police Officer 3 Erwin Baldemosa and Senior Police Officer 2 Ronald Castro, and Ibba’s driver identified only as Bunny who was hit by a bullet on the face.

Ibba is reportedly running for mayor of Bataraza in the 2016 elections. He is also president of Palawan Provincial Association of Barangay Chairmen Federation (PPABCF).

It said the escorts fired back at the armed men, but was no match to the high powered firearms of the suspects in a firefight that lasted for more than 15 minutes.

Police provincial director Senior Supt. Benjamin Acorda Jr., immediately dispatched additional force to augment elements of the 12th Marine Battalion Landing Team in the area.
