Mazda Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles and parts in the Philippines, grew by almost half of its total sales for the first nine months of this year.
Figures from Mazda Philip-pines, which is now under the stewardship of Berjaya Auto Philippines, showed that sales reached 1,612 units from January to September 2013 versus the 1,140 units sold in the same period of 2012, reflecting a 41-percent increase.
Third quarter sales rose more than half, from 422 units delivered in 2012 to 698 units in 2013, showing a 65-percent growth.
For the month of September alone, sales nearly doubled or by 80 percent to 213 units this year from 118 units last year.
Mazda Philippines Presi- dent and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan expressed belief that their products are gaining momentum from fuel-saving capabilities.
“Our Mazda products with Skyactive fuel efficient feature are gathering momentum, with more and more customers appreciating the fuel-saving benefits of the Mazda Skyactiv technology without sacrificing performance,” Tan said.
“Our dealer partners have done a tremendous job of strengthening their sales team and aftersales service operation since the Berjaya Group assumed Mazda distribution early this year,” he added.
Tan said that the company is eyeing at least five more dealerships to add to the current 14 dealerships located in key areas in the country.
“So far this year, the Mazda dealers have opened new dealerships in Metro Manila’s C5 [Circumferential Road 5], in Luzon’s Tarlac, Cavite and Cabanatuan and in Visayas’ Ilolilo. Later this year, Mazda Davao will open its door. Next year we will see about three or four new dealerships opening to extend the availability of Mazda products to more customers across the country,” he said.
