MBL starts September

BUOYED by its tremendous success in the recent months, New San Jose Builders (NSJBI) will participate in the second conference of the 2016 MBL Open Basketball Championship starting September 3.

Under coach Ranier Sison, consultant Jino Manansala and owner Jerry Acuzar, NSJBI is looking to improve its third-place finish behind champion Macway Travel Club and runner- up Philippine Christian University-LEX.

“We (NSJBI) had a good showing in our first appearance last conference where we finished a fighting third behind established more-teams such as Macway and PCU,” said Sison.

“This time, we’re hoping to do even better and improve our previous performance,” he added.

Playing team manager Jomar Acuzar, on the other hand, said the NSJBI players continue to play even after the last MBL Open “to keep themselves in good physical condition and improve their playing skills, both individually and as a team.”

NSJBI will parade an almost intact line- up, led by 6-3 forward Nikko Lao and 6-5 defense specialist Jayson Grimaldo.

Joining Lao and Grimaldo are new recruit Chris Bitoon, a 5-7 high scoring guard from Ilo-Ilo; Darryl Aurelio, Justin Padua and Acuzar.

Also in the team are Kevin Sumay, Jon Acuzar, Ivan Cruz, Lucky Palogan, Mark Puspus, RR Telles, Reymark Mallari and Ricky Supanes.

The other teams Invited to take part in the coming MBL Open are Macway Travel (Erick Kirong/Braulio Lim), former MBL champions Gerry’s Grill-Diliman College (Jerome Ngo/Rensy Bajar), Sea Lions (Jemuel Laron) and Wang’s Ballclub (Alex Wang/Pablo Lucas), Jamfy-Pioneer (Macky Villarta), Urban Cut (Ralph Ripalda) and Philippine Air Force (Alvin Zuniga).
