SAN FRANCISCO: World No.1 Rory McIlroy and Masters champion Jordan Spieth opened their WGC-Match Play Championship campaigns with easy wins on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) on a day of upsets at the new-look $9.25 million event.
Northern Irish star McIlroy carded just one birdie and 13 pars but was too good for Jason Dufner, winning 5&4 at San Francisco’s picturesque Harding Park course.
