OKING to regain back the United Football League (UFL) crown, Loyola Meralco Sparks are bringing in a retooled lineup and a new coach in time for the coming 2014-2015 season.
Former Philippine Azkals coach Simon McMenemy is coming on board to take over the coaching chores from Vince Santos in a bid to get back on top after finishing second behind Global last season.
McMenemy was formally introduced as Sparks coach on Tuesday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate, where the entire team was present along with manager Armand Del Rosario, Sparks Board of Trustees Victor Genuino, and Elwyn Borromeo, assistant vice-president of Delimondo, the new corporate partner of Loyola Meralco.
“I’m thrilled to be back here. It’s always fun coming back to the Philippines,” said the man credited for steering the Azkals to a breakthrough semifinals in the Asean Federation Football (AFF) Suzuki Cup in 2010.
