The voices behind live circuit hit ‘Merged’
The night of July 17 will forever hold an amazing memory for Migz Haleco and Maya, the newest singing discoveries of Perry Lansingan’s PPL Entertainment Inc., for it proved they took the right turn towards a promising future.
Migz and Maya headlined a joint concert aptly titled Merged at popular live circuit stage 19 East Bar in Paranaque City, and even without much marketing efforts, sold out the show to capacity. By popular demand, they will be back in concert tonight at Hard Rock Café in Glorietta 3, Makati City.
Migz, who became an Internet sensation after posting performances on YouTube and Sound Cloud, is grateful to his followers for truly being so, as they came out in huge numbers to see him perform live.
“Nakakagulat at nakakatuwa [It was both surprising and gratifying],” he said of his web-based fans’ support for his brand new singing career. Still a little bit shy during interviews, he humbly joked he finally confirmed that 800,000 plays his uploads garnered are indeed real.
A classically trained guitarist, Migz, who is in his final year of Music Production at the College of St. Benilde once joined Talentadong Pinoy choosing only to showcase his talent in strumming, and was inspired to pursue singing upon the advice of Audie Gemora.
“He said to me back then in Talentado, why don’t you also go into singing, and tinuloy ko naman po,” he related. Now, Migz—who is into Blues, Jazz, Acoustic, Classic Rock and Pop—not only plays the guitar and sings, but he has also written original songs, which should soon see a recording studio.
Maya on the other hand simply brings on the crowds armed with a five-year experience in live concerts in different part of the world. The twenty-something looker is part of a Pan-Asian all-girl group based in Los Angeles called Blush, and has since fronted for the likes of Justin Bieber, Jessy J, Black Eyed Peas and Diana Ross, among others.
“Five years ago an American company called Fat West quietly held auditions in Manila for Blush, and I was chosen from hundreds of applicants,” Maya recalled. “I had been singing in bands since I was 16 and even joined Pinoy Idol during the batch of Sarah Geronimo, so I thought why not give it a go.”
Her courage and talent did Maya well as she travelled the world with Blush, along with her Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Korean groupmates. Currently on season-break, she met PPL’s big boss Lansingan and took on his advice to try her hand on a solo career in the Philippines.
“What I’ve learned is to always take opportunities that come to you,” Maya wisely said. “It’s been three months since I came home to Manila and I’m grateful to have this chance na makilala as an individual artist.”
Lansingan, who expertly manages the careers of Dingdong Dantes, Gabby Eigenmann, Jolina Mag-dangal, Max Collins, Geoff Eigenmann, Rochelle Pangilinan, Gloc 9, and Wendell Ramos, among others, believes he has found the next big stars of the local music industry in Migz and Maya.
“Both are young and fresh,” he said in an interview. “Maya has accomplished a lot in her singing career, and is very pretty. Migz is a complete package—height, charisma and excellent talent.”
And according to their fans, when they’re voices merge as they will again tonight at the Hard Rock Café, Migz and Maya are definitely a hit.
