Megan Young returns from successful fundraising efforts

Miss World 2013 Megan Young returned home on Wednesday night from her successful fundraising efforts in the United States, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

“My main goal this year is to help those people in Leyte, in eastern and western Visayas. Tinitingnan namin kung ano yung pwede naming gawin as an organization,” Young said during a press briefing upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Young, who arrived with Miss World official Steve Douglas, will personally deliver the funds raised from her continuous campaign to aid the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.

As part of her humanitarian mission with the help of the Philippine Red Cross, she will visit typhoon-stricken families in other affected provinces, the affected families in Coron, Palawan as well as the earthquake victims in Bohol.

According to her, over $125,000 and pledges had been collected from her fundraising efforts.

In New York, the Philippine Independence Day Council led by its president Fe Martinez, handed over a check worth $20,000. At a recent fundraising event in Hong Kong, Young encouraged the Filipinos to donate unwanted clothes and cash.

During her visit in Jakarta, Indonesia, an herbal remedy manufacturer Sido Muncul, have generously donated $20,000, while a separate donation of $10,000 handed over to Young from a local law firm who wished to remain anonymous.

Another Indonesian, Miss Indonesia Director Liliana Tanoesedibjo presented a $50,000 cheque, while MNC Group CEO Harry Tanoesedibjo made a personal donation of $20,000, and another $5,000 that were collected from other donors.

Young will be staying in the country until December 3.

Last October 31, she and Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of Miss World Organization, were hurt after falling 10-feet from the stage in an orphanage in Port-Au-Prince in Haiti.

She suffered scratches and bruises in the body while Morley suffered serious injury and had undergone hip surgery in Miami, Florida. BENJIE L. VERGARA
